Year 8 No 8 - April 1985
The monthly meeting of Montrose A&F Club was held, as usual, in the Park Hotel, Montrose, on Wednesday, 3rd April. Compere for the evening was Bill Dutch.
The night started with Stephen Carcary (12), an up-and-coming and very talented young accordionist. He was accompanied by Bill Campbell on piano and George Brown on drums, as was the next soloist Bob Dalgety, another local accordionists. He was followed by Avril Andrew (14) from Aberdeen, who played fiddle, accompanied by Bill Campbell on keyboard.
Then we had a selection from our guests for the evening The Banchory S&R Society. They certainly had the toes tapping. What a wealth of talent they have in their ranks.
Fred Davidson did a turn on his melodeon, followed by Alec Bain (a previous winner of the Junior Golden Fiddle Award). Rhoda Drummond sang a selection of songs.
Then we had the Anderson family from Tarland – Paul (14), David (12) and Heather (11), three talented young fiddle players.
Jacqueline Watt was next on the hot spot with Highland dancing.
After a break for refreshments we had The Sound of Dun. This accordion and fiddle band, led by Arthur Wood, all live in the Montrose area and play frequently for local charities.
They were followed by Bob Dalgety and then the Banchory S&R Society took the floor. Again there were various soloists – Fiona Munro, Fred Davidson, Paul Anderson, Rhoda Drummond, David Anderson and Jacqueline Watt.
What a feast of talent! It could have gone on all night. Finally, though, the evening came to an end with the usual stramash.
Next month the guests are Bill Douglas and his Broadcasting Band on Wednesday, 1st May, in the Park Hotel, Montrose
